Global Headlines: Mars in Gemini

(plus a square to Neptune and Jupiter in Pisces)

November 30, 2022

Back in August, I wrote an article about the (at the time upcoming) transit of Mars through Gemini and the squares it was going to hit with Neptune and Jupiter. Now I am revisiting the topic and looking at some of the ways in which these cosmic events played out in the world at large.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Side Note: Mars is the pure masculine principle and is associated with aggression, violence, accidents, fights, war. Neptune is religion, masses, humanitarian endeavors, music, film, illusion, delusion, lies, lack of clarity, fog, vagueness. Jupiter expands and represents the law, diplomacy, foreign lands and cultures, long-distance travel, religion, philosophy, higher learning.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mass Accidents

I think by far the most outstanding expression of this transit was the Itaewon tragedy during which over 150 people died and many more were injured at a Halloween event in South Korea. Mars rules over accidents and aggression, Neptune and Jupiter together symbolise the masses. (Remember how back in April this year Neptune and Jupiter formed a conjunction just as the wave of migrants feeling Ukraine was at its peak. Neptune is anything that looks and feels like the vast ocean ex. crowds; Jupiter expands). We also had an eclipse in Scorpio a few days before the tragedy. What I find particularly disturbing in this story is how all of these young people (Gemini rules over youths) sleep-walked in the disaster. Some reports said that the people in the nearby clubs had no idea that people in the street were dying and even as they were looking in their eyes they kept eating and drinking...

Another mass-accident happened during a football game in Indonesia. It was later revealed that much of the chaos was caused by the gas (gas, fog, Neptune) the police were using to dispel the crowds.

Again in Indonesia, an earthquake (accident, Mars) killed over 160 school children (Gemini rules over students).

Around the same time a bridge collapsed (accidents, Mars) in India killing 200 people (crowd, humanitarian tragedy; Neptune).

Fighting the Twin

Mars in Gemini is also associated with civil wars and fights between brothers.

Relations between Europe and the USA are worsening. Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Europe stopped buying Russian oil & gas which led to high energy prices in the EU and many large businesses relocating from Europe to the USA. This just as Biden's Inflation Reduction Act also encourages companies to move to the USA. Many of the articles mention the possibility of a trade war. Mars (war, fight, disputes) is in Gemini, a sign ruled by Mercury, the god of the merchants.

Cars & Logistics

A conflict erupted between Serbia and Kosovo, two neighbours (Gemini rules over neighbours) over car plates (cars being used for short-distance travel, which is ruled by Mercury/Gemini).

In South Korea, truck drivers (trucks, short-distance travel, Gemini, Mercury, logistics industry) are holding large protests to demand a pay rise from the government.

Religious Fights

Mars is conflict, Neptune is religion.

The Pope recently made a remark about the Russian soldiers (Mars) fighting (Mars) in Ukraine which was perceived as racist or at least very controversial (square).

In Japan, the authorities started an investigation into the Unification Church and its influence in political circles.

In Hong Kong, a cardinal was fined for allegedly funding protests.

Refugees, Activism & Humanitarianism

As mentioned earlier, when Neptune and Jupiter conjoined in late Pisces earlier this year, we saw an unprecedented level of compassion across Ukraine's neighbours when all of these countries opening their borders to welcome ordinary Ukrainins fleeing the war. With Mars beginning to square that point and that same combination of planets (Neptune and Jupiter) this time in Rx motion, I was expecting some negativity around refugees and that host countries and host societies will start having second thoughts about whether they are really willing and/or able to provide support long-term.

And unsurprisingly German authorities reported that Ukrainian citizens are allegedly exploiting their social security system, receiving refugee resettlement payments but going back and spending the money at home (walfare tourism). Reports were published that refugees "push German cities to their limits" and that Poland is considering tightening Ukrainian refugee residency laws. Ireland has also said that they can no longer guarantee they will be able to accept refugees. Vienna said it had reached its limit.

Mars is action, aggression, violence. Neptune rules over oil (it was around the time that Neptune was discovered that oil became the hot commodity that it is today; also it looks like water).

We are seeing the group Just Stop Oil coming more and more into focus with their acts of violence towards paintings (Neptune rules over images).

The Media

Mars is action against something, usually towards a conflict. Gemini rules over the media.

Elon Musk bought Twitter and started a war on woke ideology.

Politico also has a new owner who wants to reinvent journalism (Gemini, Mercury) and move away from "bipartisan" (split; Gemini) reporting.

The Korean president banned reporters from joining him on a trip on national security grounds. This came after he was caught on a hot mic calling US congress members "bastards".

And across the world we see new media regulation being introduced.

In Tukrey, a new law will put people in jail for spreading disinformation. A similar legislation has entered into effect in Singapore but specifically with the aim of protecting children (Gemini, youth) from harmful content. Russia took the media license of a local newspaper. Vietnam now requires social media platforms to take down harmful content within 24 hours. Facebook whistleblower has launched a new non-profit for "solving social media harms".
