I feel compelled to begin this article by addressing all the skepticism around astrology.

The first thing we need to get out of the way is that most people who hate on astrology do not really know what astrology is. Their idea of astrology is based on the ... stuff ... you find in Cosmopolitan and all other "female" magazines. This is called pop astrology but pop astrology to real astrology (Hellenistic astrology) is what McDonalds is to nutrition: the general idea is similar but they are vastly different beasts.

While pop astrology relies on the sun signs, Hellenistic astrology is centered around the planets - they are the main actors. When people read about their sun sign they usually conclude that "yes, some of it is true, but only a small portion of it and so overall astrology isn't real". Well, in "real astrology" the sun sign is (to begin with!) meant to give you only a small part of the picture, not the whole story. So, if you read your sun sign description and you identify with it only a bit, that doesn't disprove astrology, it is meant to be so.

Take for example Elon Musk. He was born with the Sun in Cancer, the sign of the mother, the family, the home, the nurturer. And he does indeed have an unusual family - lots of children and even more on the way. His voice is indeed very soothing and caring just like a mother's voice. He is talking about the end of the need for humans but he says it in such a soft voice, you end up thinking "oh, whatever, no big deal, we will be fine".

But the truth is that while all of the above may be true, motherliness, home and family isn't what we associate Elon Musk with. We associate him with futuristic endevours. And when we look at his full natal chart, we see that yes, his Sun may be in Cancer but it is in a square to Uranus, the planet of futurism, technology, space and astrology. This is why the ancients focused on the planets, not so much on the signs, and why real astrology is real while pop astrology misses the main point.

The second most common reason why people hate on astrology is because they are freaked out by the idea that their lives may be predestined and they may not have been dealt a good fortune this time around. This fear rests upon the presumption that by going into astrology you may be able to find out what your future holds but you will not be able to change it. And you will have to live with the knowledge that in this lifetime no matter what you do, you will not be happy (whatever that means for you). Hope is a powerful coping mechanism that noone wants to risk losing.

But astrology doesn't work like that. It doesn't tell what will happen and leave you to deal with the emotional consequences of this knowledge. Rather, it tells you whether the winds in this time and place will be favourable to your cause or not and why. It tells you what it is within you that is attracting certain type of people or situations. And it gives you a few ideas on how to work with the energies within and without in order to achieve your goals.

And here, I come to the main question - how to work with astrology and astrologers?

The point of working with astrology isn't that one day you will find yourself in a tough situation and go to an astrologer and they will tell you what to do and you will do it and hope for the best.

This isn't how astrology or astrologers work :)

The point of working with astrology is that you will learn astrology in the process of working with an astrologer and will be able to take the right decisions on your own. Working with astrology will help you identify the forces that comprise the universe and how to mix and match them to achieve your dreams. Just the way everything in the universe is comprised of a limited number of chemical elements, so everything in our destiny,human lives, relationships, the events of our lives are comprised of a finite number of forces. Knowing what they are, what their properties are, how they offset and compliment each other is the greatest value and wisdom of astrology :)
